J. Bruce Burley, DDS, FAGD
Dr. Bruce Burley, who is now retired from dentistry, is honored to be the founder of Hagerstown Smiles Dental Care. He loves that Hagerstown Smiles continues to be driven by a servant mentality and a core value of paying it forward and, as a water and nature lover, leaving a “positive wake.” He and Connie still live in Washington County. Dr. Bruce continues to “fill in” here at Hagerstown Smiles when he is needed, but is enjoying his time pursuing many hobbies and interests outside of dentistry, including spending time with his children: Brandon and Allison, and is 4 grandchildren: Carter, Kasen, Blake, and Everett.
After graduating from Williamsport High School, Dr. Burley attended Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology, cum laude. It was at Wake Forest that he met his wife, Connie, who was also a Biology major. Dr. and Mrs. Burley continue to be “proud to be Demon Deacons." Dr. Burley earned his D.D.S. degree from the University of Maryland Dental School, Baltimore College of Dental Surgery in 1986. While at the University of Maryland Dental School, he was selected as a member of Gorgas Odontological Honor Society and the Gamma Pi Delta Prosthodontic Honor Society. He also served as co-editor of the Dental School yearbook. Dr. Bruce Burley practiced family and cosmetic dentistry in Washington County beginning in 1986. During this time continued to spend hours reading and taking continuing education courses related to dentistry. These post-graduate continuing education achievements have awarded Dr. Burley a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry (F.A.G.D.), recognizing him as a leader and example of the importance of quality continuing dental education to patient care. Dr. Burley is also a member of the American Dental Association and the Washington County Dental Society, having served as past president and past secretary of the dental society.
Dr. Bruce continues to be active in the local community and in his church. He is most proud to have worked with his dental team at Hagerstown Smiles Dental Care in the establishment of many Dentistry From The Heart days over several years. Through these days, and with the assistance of friends, patients and dental personnel in the area, HSDC Dentistry From The Heart days were able to provide over $300,000 in free dental care to those less fortunate. In addition, HSDC has provided dental care to our military veterans. Continuing emphasis on paying forward our blessings at Hagerstown Smiles Dental Care in the form of monthly charity chairpersons is a testament to the core values of Hagerstown Smiles Dental Care. Team members apply and are selected monthly to organize giving to their respective charities, and is a meaningful part of being a team member at Hagerstown Smiles.
